What makes a Pokémon card valuable?

Two Pokémon cards with the same name can be worth wildly different amounts. Value comes down to a handful of factors — and condition sits at the top of the list.

  • Condition & grade. The single biggest lever. The same card can jump from a few dollars raw to a large multiple of that in PSA 10 Pokémon card grading. Centering, corners, edges and surface all count.
  • Rarity & variant. Holo, reverse holo, full art, alt art, secret rare, first edition and shadowless printings command far more than common versions.
  • Set & age. Vintage WOTC sets (Base Set, Jungle, Fossil, Neo) and sought-after modern sets carry premiums; the specific card number matters.
  • The Pokémon itself. Charizard, Pikachu, Umbreon, Mewtwo and other fan favourites consistently sell for more than less popular Pokémon.
  • Demand right now. Prices move with the market — reprints, tournament results and collector trends all shift what a card sells for.

The value checker above reflects all of this, because it uses the real sold price for your exact card and variant — not a generic estimate.

Pokémon card value questions, answered

How do I find out what my Pokémon card is worth?+

Search your card by name and set number in the value checker above. TCGrader matches it to our 100,000+ card catalog and shows its current raw (ungraded) market price plus graded values at PSA 9 and PSA 10, drawn from live sales data — so you can see what the card sells for today, both loose and slabbed.

How much is my Pokémon card worth?+

A Pokémon card is worth what comparable copies actually sell for in the same condition. Most common cards are worth a few cents to a few dollars raw, while vintage holos, first editions, alt arts and high-grade chase cards can be worth hundreds or thousands. Condition is the biggest factor: the same card in PSA 10 can be worth many times its raw price. Search your exact card above to see its real current value.

Are my Pokémon cards worth anything?+

Many are worth only a small amount, but it only takes one. The cards most likely to have real value are holographic rares, full arts and alt arts, first edition and shadowless Base Set cards, promos, and anything in near-mint or better condition. The fastest way to check is to search each card here — if a card shows a meaningful raw or graded price, it is worth looking at more closely.

How much more is a graded Pokémon card worth?+

Grading typically multiplies value the higher the grade. A PSA 9 often sells for noticeably more than the raw card, and a PSA 10 (Gem Mint) can be worth several times the raw price on desirable cards. The value checker shows the raw price alongside the PSA 9 and PSA 10 values for each card so you can see the grade premium directly.

Is my Pokémon card worth grading?+

It is worth grading when the graded value at a realistic grade beats the raw value plus grading fees and shipping. Check the card value here, get a free AI pre-grade to estimate what it would score, and run the numbers in our grading cost calculator before you pay to submit.

Where do these Pokémon card values come from?+

Values are derived from live sales data for each specific card and variant, updated on a rolling schedule. Raw prices reflect ungraded copies; graded prices reflect recent PSA-scale sales at that grade. Prices move with the market, so we refresh them continuously.
