Ascended Heroes Grading Report: The Set Everyone Is Grading in 2026

Every few sets, one release becomes the grading magnet. Right now it's Ascended Heroes: 638 cards graded on TCGrader in the last 90 days — more than any other set — with a healthy 8.72 set average that beats the platform-wide 8.67.

The cards driving the volume

Four Ascended Heroes cards sit in the platform's top 15 most-graded:

  • Mega Gengar ex — 128 graded, avg 8.62. The set's chase and the volume leader.
  • Pikachu ex — 81 graded, avg 8.88. Grading beautifully; one of the safest gem bets in the set.
  • Mega Dragonite ex — 79 graded, avg 8.72.
  • Psyduck — 50 graded, avg 8.88. A budget favorite with a gem-friendly print run.
  • Bubbling under: Mega Charizard Y ex (55 graded, avg 8.37 — the set's trickiest grader).

What the averages tell you

The set prints clean. An 8.72 average across 638 cards is strong for a modern set under heavy grading volume (hype sets usually average lower, because every pulled copy gets submitted regardless of condition). Centering on Ascended Heroes has been more consistent than its Chaos Rising and Phantasmal Flames contemporaries.

But the chase isn't the best grader. Mega Gengar ex (8.62) and especially Mega Charizard Y ex (8.37) trail the set average, while Pikachu ex and Psyduck (both 8.88) lead it. If you're grading for gems rather than grading the most expensive card, the Pikachu is the percentage play.

Pre-submission checklist for this set

  1. Mega Charizard Y ex: check centering top-to-bottom first — it's the recurring flaw in the sub-8.5 population.
  2. Mega Gengar ex: dark artwork and frame make edge whitening the tell; loupe all four edges.
  3. Pikachu ex / Psyduck: these mostly fail on handling, not printing — if your copy is pack-fresh to sleeve, it's a genuine 9.5 candidate.
  4. Everything: AI-grade it free first. The set average being 8.72 still means roughly half of copies land below 9 — find out which half yours is in before paying a fee.

The bigger picture

Ascended Heroes' grading boom is part of the Mega-evolution wave dominating 2026 — seven of the fifteen most-graded cards platform-wide are Mega ex cards. Set collectors are grading deep into the checklist too (Psyduck and Clefairy-tier cards making the volume rankings is unusual), which suggests this set is being treated as a long-term collection cornerstone, not just a chase-and-flip.
